Last week I started working as a substitute teacher again. I know it sounds like a hellish job, and I’m sure everyone has memories of how poorly their classes treated their substitute teachers when they were in school.
Surprisingly, I really enjoy it. Sure, I have my bad days. But most days are pretty rewarding, and I get to work in a variety of different environments with a lot of different kids. The schedule is pretty flexible, and overall it’s a pretty sweet gig. Every once in a while, the kids are super duper cute and tell me they like my hair! (that happened last week with second graders, haha)
Yesterday I subbed a half day in my old elementary school. It was really fun. It’s undergone a lot of renovations since I was there, but it was still really nostalgic to be in my old school. None of my classroom teachers are still there, but a lot of my friends parents work there now as well as many of the teachers my brothers and friends had. It was so weird to be there as a teacher, but it was really fun to see everyone. Plus, the kids were really well-behaved and cute, which always makes for a good day.
Tomorrow I’m working as my middle school gym teacher. I have really bad memories of girls in middle school P.E., but at least I get to wear comfy clothes, right?
