Before I left for school, I was at Brian’s house and we were listening to a comedian (who’s name is escaping me) discuss the virtues of bacon. Brian and his family are great lovers of bacon, so the bit was especially funny to them. I like bacon, but (don’t throw things at me) I think it’s a little overrated. Yeah, there are plenty of things that I love that have bacon in or on them. But it’s not really like me to pick up strips of bacon and just go to town. I like it, but I don’t love it.
Somehow the idea of bacon and chocolate was brought up. Brian’s parents thought this was a good idea, and even went so far as to try it. My thoughts were “Go for it, but I’m gonna pass.” I love chocolate. A lot. And I even like bacon a lot when paired with the right thing. However, in my mind chocolate was pretty much the wrong thing.
I thought that Brian’s parents had just come up with this quirky combo until yesterday when I found not one, but TWO recipes combining chocolate and bacon. What is this? Apparently it’s a trend. Who knew?
The first recipe was for Chocolate Bacon Cupcakes, courtesy of The Novice Chef, and the second was Chocolate Bark with Bacon and Walnuts on The Waspy Redhead. Since coming to school and cooking for myself I’ve become a frequenter of foodie blogs and these are two of my favorites. Definitely check out their recipes because their pictures are pretty and even make me want to try them a little.
Does the chocolate + bacon combo sound tasty to you? Am I the only one who is turned off by this?
I put my love of bacon high up on my list but I have no interest in putting bacon with chocolate. Bacon doesn't go with sweets. Your cousin, Travis, though has the brilliant idea of adding bacon to Chipotle's garnishes. That idea is one of the best I've ever heard.
