Maya Lin came and spoke at my school yesterday. It was so cool to hear her speak. As soon as she opened her mouth I started grinning. I remember watching a documentary on her in elementary school, and I’d seen it at least another time since then. She’s really one of the closest people we have to a celebrity in architecture. The fact that she is a woman and won a HUGE design competition at the age of 21 doesn’t hurt either.

Her talk was really thought provoking. Her work now involves a lot of landscape installations, and is often closely linked with time. She discussed was she has said is her last memorial, What is Missing. Check out the website. It will make you think, at the very least.
