Honeymoon: Part 1

newlyweds

29 Aug
On the Sunday after our wedding Brian and I drove up to Bethany Beach for our honeymoon. It was such a fun and relaxing week. We slept in, read on the beach, ate lots of pizza, and generally decompressed from the wedding hoopla.
We stayed in my aunt and uncle’s beach house. It’s really cute and a short walk to the beach and all the fun restaurants and shops in Bethany. When we got there on Sunday afternoon this little set-up was waiting for us!

It was such a cute way to kick off the week. And I’m BIG into Fisher’s popcorn, so I was really excited about that. I may or may not have eaten 3/4 of that big tub.
Now before I go any further, I have to introduce you to our friends we made on the trip.
Meet Hazel and Honey. They are the Pickleweeds hedgehog twins (you can read more about them here.) We actually discovered them last Christmas when my mom was picking out some Calico Critters for my young cousins. Brian has this strange affinity for hedgehogs, and we were so enthralled with their 80s rock hair that we briefly considered purchasing them. However, we resisted.
It was meant to be when we saw them in that toy shop on the boardwalk on Tuesday. It was in between happy hour and dinner, and we were trying to walk off nachos and multiple margaritas in hopes of working up an appetite. I saw them sitting on the shelf, and couldn’t resist. It worked out nicely because without them, we would probably only have 2 pictures of us on our honeymoon!

Moving on… our typical day on our honeymoon consisted of waking up late, throwing sandwiches together, and walking to the beach!

We didn’t spend a ton of time in the ocean, but we did do a lot of reading. Brian was reading the Game of Thrones series, while I was rereading Harry Potter #5.

In the evenings we went out to dinner and tried to do something different every night. The first night we got there we ordered Grotto and stayed in because it was pouring down rain.

The second night we went to Rehoboth, got Nicabolis at Nicola Pizza, and walked around the boardwalk (we may or may not have squeezed in some after dinner Thrasher’s fries.) We came home pretty early and watched True Grit, which I surprisingly enjoyed a lot.

Stay tuned for Honeymoon: Part 2!
