Remember when I wrote about how proud I was that Brian and I were cooking instead of eating out all the time?  I thought we had dodged a great bullet.  “I don’t have to worry so much about us gaining tons of weight,” I thought. We cook.  Surely if our choice to eat in rather than eat out is saving us both money and calories.

False.

You see, I like cheese.  A lot.  And Brian and I both have a considerable sweet tooth.  So the things we wind up eating at home are often not the healthiest.  Or they would be healthy if eaten in their intended portion size.

Yesterday Brian and I went for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, which was a nice way for me to get out of the house without having to exert a ton of energy.  I brought my camera and we stopped a few times and took some pictures.  Brian offered to take on of me, and when I looked at it I was appalled.

We have to do something.

Today, Brian and I are embarking on a mission to eat healthier.  We haven’t done anything about it in terms of menu planning, grocery shopping, or anything like that.  It remains an abstract goal that we have set for ourselves as of a few days ago.  But it’s a start.

Do you have a favorite place to get healthy recipes?  I love Skinnytaste, but I’d love to hear what other ones you guys can come up with!

Congrats to you two for deciding to eat healthier! Even if it's an abstract goal, you still have it on your mind- it's the first (and biggest) step to changing habits! And ps, I'm incredibly jealous that your drove on the Parkway! Gosh it's so pretty. Have a great Monday!

Let me know if you find the secret to cooking healthy meals that still taste good and that both you and your husband will eat. Everytime I try to cook something healthy my husband turns his nose up at it and every time he claims to cook something healthy it wouldn't exactly be what I would call “low calorie” – ha!

haha! I laughed out loud when I read this. Me and my husband encountered the same issue. My poor husband got it much worse than I did, though. We were eating at home almost every night, but we were cooking steak with mashed potatoes. not the healthiest thing. We're eating more green, unprocessed foods these days.

I'm in the same situation when S and I visit each other. We always want to have some “cuddling food” just to “celebrate” the moments we actually spend together.

I also have to agree with Melissa: I find it so hard to find foods that S and I both like, and that are really healthy. I would really like some tip on that :D Have a healthy day!

We are a cheese obsessed couple too and it's hard to not put it on everything. I've been trying to use the same recipes, but take smaller portions.

I like to think I'm in the same situation, except I'm seventeen and not in a relationship, but I can relate in that I am a massive fan of cheese and it has been the bane of my life recently in that it has made me gain alot of weight really.

Thanks for showing skinnytaste tho! Id never heard of it before, maybe it is the answer to my problems! xx

We went through the same situation. We were eating at home thinking it was good, but turned out not so good for our weight. I have a few pinned on my healthy eating Pinterest board that are delish. (I have collected them from a variety of websites.)

Good luck and please blog about it along the way. I love inspiration!
