Sketch and Wash

Design Work· WordPress Designs

14 Nov

I know I went missing after Launch Day, but I’m going to try to start blogging on here more regularly!  Stay tuned!

Sketch and Wash was another design that I began when I was still in the Blog Designer Workshop.  It was my first WordPress installation ever, and I spent a ton of time on it.  I learned a lot about blog design in trying to shoehorn my mock-up into a WordPress theme (so when I went to do my design for Katelyn Brooke Designs, it was MUCH easier!)

Sketch and Wash is essentially an art blog.  I knew I wanted something that felt artsy but still modern and clean.  I searched other blogs with similar content and I didn’t find any that were similar to what I wanted.  For the design, I started browsing color schemes in Adobe Kuler and just started searching key words.  I typed in “architect” because I wanted something clean and modern looking (I also graduated with a degree in architecture!)

Another key thing in this design process was finding these free watercolor Photoshop brushes.  I love them!  They’re so much fun and I knew they’d be perfect for Sketch and Wash.

The changes in the design all just had to do with the coding of the site.  I had the most trouble with the header and the menu bar, so I had to modify the initial design to make it work.

Here is the final result!  Overall I’m happy with it, but it still needs a little tweaking here and there.  Go check it out for yourself!

P.S. Don’t forget to enter the giveaway!  I’m so excited about the turnout so far!
