my first pomegranate

15 Jan

Hello friends!  I just couldn’t stay away any longer.  I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend (or the regular weekend, if that’s the case!)

I bought this pomegranate in November.  November!  Naturally I Googled it, and found that they can last in your fridge for up to six months.  Sweet!  De-seeding a pomegranate is actually pretty fun, this was the first time I’d ever done it (thanks again, Google!)  Aren’t they pretty?  I must confess that only a few sad seeds that are left.  I looked down at the bowl in my lap and realized I’d ate most of them.  Oops!  At least they were tasty!

I have a lot more pictures of food coming up this week!  My mom made many delicious things while I was home.  Yum!

Lovely close-up! Pomegranates are absolutely delicious, esp. the really sour taste and crunchy feeling. Plus they are super healthy! Are they in season now?

This makes me want to try one! If you don't seed them properly, they stain your hands, right? Was it hard?

It was pretty easy! It took me about ten minutes. It didn't stain my hands, but I think it probably stained my shirt. I just Googled it, you basically cut it half way down and then rip it open and try to take the seeds out. I did it over a bowl of water in the sink. The seeds drop to the bottom and the rest (the membrane) floats to the top. You should definitely give it a try!

Pomegranates are so intimidating to me so I've never bought one! You have inspired me to try!

Oh…I had one that went bad! And that's just the worst…the seeds turn black and mushy, and even the ones that are okay taste a little funny. So glad yours was alright. =)

Oh no! Yeah, there were a few that were shriveled, but for the most part everything was fine!

Thanks Jaclyn! They are definitely more tricky than peeling on of the Cuties sitting on my kitchen sink right now :)

So this might be a stupid question…do you just eat pomegranate seeds? You don't have to dry them or anything?
