My name is Kate, and I have completely fallen off of the fitness bandwagon.

In my defense, it’s winter and I don’t have access to a gym for the first time in my life.  Okay, we do have gyms here, but I don’t want to pay the money to join one.  Definitely will at some point in my life, just not right now.

That leaves running or working out in our apartment.  I have two Jillian Michaels videos that I did pre-wedding, but I’m finding that once you’ve done them it’s really hard to motivate yourself to do them again.  Plus, I hate Jillian.  That might be a little strong, but she gets on my nerves so much that I feel like my blood pressure is rising when I watch her. Ugh.

I really like to run, and I plan on running when it’s warmer than 45 degrees.  However, the other night as we were going to sleep, Brian goes “Oh, by the way, I got this email that there has been a report that there is a man soliciting young women.  You know, like A BLOCK FROM OUR APARTMENT.  So maybe don’t go running by yourself outside, mmmkay?” (mmkay may be part of my dramatic interpretation)

If you lived with me, you would probably know that I am a naturally paranoid person.  I scare really easily.  My college roommates can attest to this.  They liked to plant creepy things in my bathroom because I was the easiest to scare in our apartment.  Knowing that there is possibly a predator roaming where I roam is pretty much the number 1 thing that would deter me from running.

So here we are.  One of my New Year’s resolutions was to work out 3 times each week.  So far I’ve only worked out twice both weeks.  My college self would be ashamed.  ASHAMED!!!  I have just totally gotten out of the habit.  I need to fall back in love with working out.

My latest hope comes from a post on Iowa Girl Eats about Body Rock.  At first glance I though it would be way too intense for me (it still could be, I haven’t tried it.)  I don’t want to look like a body builder.  But it looks like the workouts are short and it might give me something different to do.  Plus, the girl has a pretty awesome accent, which means I’m more likely to watch the videos (sorta joking.)

I’m hoping to try out the first workout today.  It looks pretty straight forward, but I’m sure it will be hard!  I’m so out of shape.

Do any of you have any at home workout recommendations?  I would LOVE to hear them!

My recommendation is that you don't make new-year's resolutions like that anymore ;)

I'm super paranoid too! If you have stairs in your house/apartment, you could try running those? My mom used to do that when it was cold instead of going out and it helped! Thankfully we have a gym inside of our apartment complex so that is super nice! (I've only gone twice, but I'm determined to make it a habit)

Start dancing! Maybe Zumba on DVD our belly dancing or something like that? This is really what I'm considering to do soon, especially if I don't get my lazy but in the Bergen rain :D

P90X!!! It's da best!! Also, I found the most black rotted banana the other day in the road and thought of you. Too bad you're too far away for me to plant it in your bathroom like the good old days :-)

I was going to suggest Body Rock! I'm a gym lover myself, but I think her website is amazing…and yes, the adorable accent helps a lot. ;-)

I also find that yoga/pilates is really great for me when I don't feel like working out. It's never as intense as my regular workouts, but I figure it's better than doing nothing.

I just did the first workout and I really liked it! Of course, it was only 7 minutes, haha. Maybe I'll look into yoga and pilates videos too! Thanks!

You can do it, I've only worked out once this whole year, so pathetic.

    I believe in you!

I roll out the yoga mat. I can always convince myself to do yoga if I don't feel like a sweaty workout.

I don't have access to a gym either and it's so cold outside that I don't want to do anything!! I did go for an hour walk the other day and got whistled at twice…

My advice … Just keep going. I go through ruts too, but find when I don't beat myself up about it, I actually do more. Something is better than nothing … And it will be easier when it warms up. Hang in there girlfriend!

I can see how Jillian can get old. I'm doing the 30 day shred right now (not within 30 days) and once I'm done I'm not going back. She's tough and I like how she can laugh at herself sometimes. But…. I HATE it when she calls the women in the video “buddy.” Like: “It's hurting isn't it, Buddy?” Just a liiiiitttle condescending in my eyes. I tend to yell at the TV.

Anyway, switching up the DVDs throughout the week keeps me sane (I don't have access to a gym either). J and I do P90X yoga every thursday now, and I've been meaning to supplement a little of Denise Austen's Pilates in there too. Good luck with your new routine! 2 times a week is better than nothin'. ;)

Hi Kate! Your blog is AMAZING! And I've completely lost my motivation to workout, too. I need to get back into that habit! Recently, I've found some good workout videos on Netflix, so in the winter months I always workout inside.

That quote is amazing, by the way! Very inspirational. Good luck with it all :) I'll be right beside you trying to get motivated and in shape!

    xo, gina

I've started Jillian's 30-day shred again for the third time in the past year (can't afford a gym membership quite yet). I HOPE that I'll be able to stick to it this time. But I'm right there with you — she infuriates me! The mute button is my friend. Best of luck!
