My first guest blogger this week is Sarah from Hemenway Street! Sarah is a wonderful photographer and a has a great eye for design (I mean, just LOOK at her blog!) She is really sweet and I have so enjoyed getting to know her through blog world. Make sure you check out her stuff!
Hello there! My name is Sarah, and I write the Boston-based blog, Hemenway Street. I’m thrilled to guest posting for Kate while she’s away. I first came across Kate’s blogs a few months ago, and they have since become firm favorites.
CONEY BEACH | ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX | SEVEN
I absolutely love traveling, and while my student’s budget won’t allow for a spring break trip this year, I can certainly dream. My inspiration comes from this vintage travel poster that was commissioned by British Railways in 1948 to promote train services to Coney Beach. My mother is from Wales, and many of my childhood memories are from visiting my Nana in the little seaside town of Porthcawl. Wales has some incredibly beautiful beaches, and that is where my mind first goes when I think of spring.
For me, it wouldn’t be spring without beautiful and bright colors, and I found myself being drawn to the combination of mustard and coral. Don’t you just love the stripes on this dress? And this coral necklace and passport holder from Kate Spade felt like the perfect way to add some springtime cheer. Although spring break is all about fun, you have to be a little practical too. This versatile bag and these comfortable walking shoes will make sure you’re ready for any adventures you may come across. It’s so important to me to be able to record memories, whether they’re written in a travel journal or captured with a camera.
Where would you go for a spring break trip if you could travel anywhere?
I love that dress so much. I have a trip to Thailand planned and this dress would be perfect. However if I could go anywhere for spring break? It would be somewhere hot and near the ocean. After a winter in Canada it's needed. Great guest post.
Wow, Thailand looks amazing! I'm sure you'll have a wonderful trip. Isn't that dress great?! I'd love to add it to my wardrobe. I could definitely use some sunshine & warmth too :)
Ahh I went to Wales a few years ago, and I've always wanted to go back!
Oh how wonderful, Kelly! Where did you go?
Thanks for having me, Kate! I hope you enjoy your week off!
Love all of the essentials!! I've got the travel bug SO bad right now. France or Italy, must go soon!!
Thanks, Anna! I went to France & Italy in high school, and I've been dying to go back ever since.
What a lovely round-up! Clean, simple, and very appropriate for a fun little trip. What would you recommend for travel reading material? And very neat that your mom is from Wales; I'll have to stop by Hemenway Street later tonight to peruse some of your posts. :)
Now that I'm no longer in college or grad school, spring break seems to be a distant memory. So many people talk about still thinking on “school time” (new year being September, getting off for the summer, etc.) but I find I actually forgot that pretty easily. I do have what is a spring break-timed trip to D.C. this coming weekend, which I'm excited about; it'll be my first time there. But if I still had a spring break and I could go anywhere, I would probably go to Jordan. I've wanted to visit Petra for ages, and I'm still kicking myself for not splurging and visiting Jordan while I was still living in Egypt.
Thanks, Jess! When I'm traveling I like to read books that I can read a bit at a time and can get into quickly. Have you ever read any of Bill Bryson's books? They're funny, interesting, and perfect for traveling.
I went to DC last winter, and absolutely loved it. I actually stayed in Alexandria, VA and it was such a beautiful city. In DC, I went to a lot of the monuments and museums. It was pretty great!
I've always wanted to travel to Egypt…it must have been amazing living there!
I definitely have that dress on my Pinterest. Swoon! I think yellow is such a fun dress color.

Totally agree about Wales having some beautiful beaches. I did my undergrads at Cardiff University and spent some great times there! Love your picks. Nothing like a cute but comfy pair of shoes and a good camera! Have a lovely weekend x
