Lindsay’s Sketchbook

Share Your Sketchbook

14 Mar

I’ve been a follower of Lindsay’s art blog, Daily Doily, for a while now, and I just love her artwork.  I totally admire her dedication, it seems like she is constantly posting new work!  All of these photos are from her Flickr, and I had so much fun going through her stuff.  I love how she layers her pages and how her sketchbook is really a testament to the places she’s been and the things she’s seen.

What kind of sketchbook do you use?  I carry a pocket moleskine with me all the time.  When I know I will be out sketching like at my urban sketchers group I will bring a few.  I carry the hand book watercolor journal travel set for when I’m using watercolor,  a square 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 hand book artist journal and sometimes a brown paper small sketchbook that I got in Paris (it’s handmade).  I will really sketch on anything.  One time I sketched on a drink coaster :)

What is your sketchbook’s story?  It is a documentation of my everyday life, a capture of a moment in time and unique to me.

What kind of media do you use in your sketchbook?  I usually use a Sanford design ebony pencil, but they are discontinued and made by Prismacolor now.  I haven’t tried the Prismacolor ones yet; I hear they aren’t as good.  I have dozens of these scattered all over the place.  This is my pencil case and you can find it filled with:
Faber-Castell 9000 pencils in 2B, 4B and 6B (I think)
Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens Brush Tip in multiple colors
Galaxy Marker in white- this is the BEST white marker I have found.  I LOVE it.  You can find great art supplies in scrapbook stores (don’t hate), haha.
Lamy Safari pen in white, ink converter filled with black noodlers ink
Winsor & Newton Cotman watercolors sketchers pocket box
Waterbrush
Other various pencils, etc.

Where do you like to work in your sketchbook?  Anywhere and everywhere.  I sketch a lot in my car and public places.  I rarely ever sketch at home or in the studio.

What is the biggest inspiration for your work?  I don’t take sketching too seriously and it’s usually just a quick interpretation of something that catches my eye.  I get inspired when I travel, see other sketches that people make or new supplies I want to try.  I love to read the Urban Sketchers blog.

Thank you so much, Lindsay!  All photos are by Lindsay, make sure you go check out Daily Doily!  And if you have a sketchbook to share, EMAIL ME!  It’s kate {at} sketchandwash {dot} com!

This is so inspiring! Thank you for sharing this. I’ve started a sketchbook for design inspiration, but I haven’t included any of my own work in it yet. I’m thinking I should and it would be so much fun to create something personal!

Very cool! What a great idea featuring a different artist’s sketchbook, very inspiring! Will you be featuring a new artist each week or once a month?

Thanks! I try to do it every Wednesday if I have enough people to participate, except for the first Wednesday of every month when I do the Art to Inspiration link-up :)

Love the variety in this sketchbook; especially the water color tree over the pencil drawing.
