Instagram Tips

social media· tips and tutorials

18 Oct

Remember when I said I was getting an iPhone for my birthday?  Well, it turns out that all those people who woke up in the middle of the night to preorder theirs did so for a reason- because mine still isn’t here yet.  But that hasn’t stopped me from stalking the mailman and fantasizing about what I will do with my new toy when it arrives.

Hands down, the thing I am most excited about is getting to finally be on Instagram.  I feel like I’ve been missing out on this social media outlet, and I can’t wait to get started!

However, every social media outlet has it’s rules and faux pas, and I know that when I finally get on there I’ll be miserably behind.  So this Tips for Better Blogging post is gonna be a little bit different.

I’ve been hoarding Instagram tips like a crazy person- here’s what I’ve found so far:

Allie posted her presentation on telling your story via Instagram.

The VSCO app might be the first thing I install on my phone.

I didn’t even know Instagram had a popular page, but here’s how to get on it.

Instagram 101, complete with infographic. (Thanks for the tip, Brooke!)

More Instagram tips and tricks.

Now, here’s where you come in.  I want to hear what you’ve learned from your own experience, your pet peeves, your favorite tools, anything and everything!  Have you written a post that includes Instagram tips?  Leave the link in the comments- I’d love to read it!

Also, don’t forget to leave your Instagram username in the comments!  This phone will come someday, and when it does I’m going to need some peeps to follow.

This is such a great post on instagram! I’m now downloading the VSCO app, and these links you’ve shared have made me second-guess my photo-taking ways on the ‘gram (for the better though!). I hope you’re having a lovely Thursday!

First of all, can’t wait for you to get your phone because the iPhone is amazing. I got my first one last year for my birthday and we are inseparable. Really… Secondly, Instagram is tha bomb because I’m on it all the time and I love looking at everyone’s pictures :). Thanks for the tips, I will definitely put them to good use!

You can find me at indieprepgirl on Instagram and would love to follow you back!

Hi Kate …. tell me about it I have been waiting 2 weeks and I too have been stalking the mail box damn it … better arrive soon … I am so desperate to have an iphone that actually works properly …

I use Instagram @christianaholt but have issues with it as my phone refuses to work properly so you may see some duplicate photos which I need to find a way to remove (anyone know?)

My best tip is make sure your Instagram name is the same as your Twitter handle. Not only does it make people easier to find you, but when people tweet photos from Instagram, they can use one name and you get notified and seen on both.

I think my one tip would be to follow the people you’re seriously most interested in keeping up with –aka: no obligation follows. Because then you end up seeing someone snapping a picture of their half cousin’s sister twice removed puking up bourbon when — really — you just wanted to catch a glimpse of your parent’s new dog.

    or something like that.

Good luck! My username is alexlately.

Grea post! I feel like everyone is always learning about Instagram! It’s is CRAZY fun! I’ve actually made some new friends and clients via instagram, so I’m a big fan.

My only tip outside of the ones you mentioned is to get the Wood App!!!! A friend of mine designed it and it has taken off like wild fire with rave reviews and sooo many users. It’s the very best in-phone photo editing app I’ve used so far. I think it costs $2!!!

I can’t wait to start following you on Instagram!!

You’re going to looooove it. I use VSCO exclusively and love that too. My other tips would be to try to post things on Instagram that people won’t see on your blog, Twitter or FB. Gives them a reason to follow you + it’s annoying when people post the same picture to every.single.account.
