Brian is a HUGE dog person. As in if we’re at a party, and there’s a dog in the room, I know where Brian is. Our latest bedtime ritual is to scroll through puppies on Pinterest on my phone before we go to sleep. He’s that into it.
So when my brother and his girlfriend were talking about going to this place where they let you play with puppies, of course we had to go too! I mean, come on… puppies.
So here’s the question: do you have a dog? Please tell me about your pet. Seriously. I’ve always known that Brian and I would get dogs (because he’s obsessed and I’m allergic to cats, which are probably more apartment friendly) but I would really like to wait until we buy a house to get one.
So for now Brian and I just like to fantasize about puppies- so your stories would help us a lot. Alternately, if you have a favorite blog dog, that works just as well. I’m not above blog stalking puppies. (I’m kind of obsessed with Mabel. I’m all about the Great Pyrenees. It’s what comes up when you Google “great white majestic dog,” which I know from experience. Who doesn’t want that?)
I know this isn’t at all related to my blog, but I just felt like if I could pass on just a fraction of the puppy high that we all felt walking out of there, then you’d be starting your week off right!
{here are some pictures of another cute puppy}
Oh gosh! Look at all those PUPPIES :) I have a serious addiction, too. xoxo, eliza
Here is a birthday post I did for our pup a year or two ago.
http://lostandfawned.com/2011/02/09/2217/
I might as well have a dog instagram. I take photos of our fur-baby constantly. He’s been through roommates, tiny apartments and now our house with us (and he seems to have grown like a goldfish in each living space). He was a mutt-pup from a barn litter in Amish country. He’s a total mongrel, but we love him to pieces.
He lived with us when we lived in a small 2 bedroom apartment. We had a private entrance, but no real yard. It wasn’t at all convenient, but we adapted. He was happy there. Now that we are in a house, we still don’t have a fence, but he’s tethered on a flexible chord when we are out doing yardwork, and he “does his business” on a leash just fine. Still not the most convenient thing in the middle of winter, but we make it work. He’s totally worth it.
Aww, Logan is so cute! Yeah, my thing about waiting until we buy a house is more my personal “responsibility trajectory” than anything else- I guess in my mind I think that once we’ve bought a house we’ll be more settled. Right now we spend about a third of the year living with my parents when Brian is on break, and who knows where we’ll be after he graduates!
Please don’t EVER think you can’t blog about puppies, because that’s totally ok in my book!
I know many people that have dogs in apartments, even big dogs. I guess when you live in big cities you just adapt. If we waited until we had a house to get a dog, we might never get the dog. As long as you’re committed to taking them out regularly for fresh air and exercise, you could make it work!
My favorite puppy to stalk is Ali’s (Be Up & Doing) dog Desh. He’s pretty much the most adorable dog I’ve ever seen.
Haha I’m glad I have your approval :)
I totally get that, and I think that under certain circumstances that could be us too. The house thing is more about where I imagine I’ll be at that point in my life- I’m sure we could get a dog right now if we wanted to, but I’d rather be more geographically and financially settled.
And Desh is freakin’ adorable! So cute!
I’m not even a dog person, but I just want to cuddle those puppies! So adorable!
Want. Each. One.
Ohhhhhhhh my gosh. I can’t go in to places like that without leaving in tears. I would just want to take them all home with me! I’ve been playing with the idea of getting a dog, but living alone in an apartment on the third floor is not the ideal situation for bringing an unpotty-trained pup into my life. :) So I guess I will be living vicariously through blogging puppy owners as well. I’m okay with that.
These babies are ridiculously cute! I am a HUGE dog person – We rescued Finley (our boy Rottie Mix) a week before we graduated college with no furniture in our apartment. He’s now five and a half and that apartment, a bought and sold town home and now a newly purchased house with a yard later we’re looking for a second fur-baby!
Now that I have the fenced in yard and bigger house I get the need to feel settled but whew, if we had waited we would have missed out on years of puppy cuddles!
Finley’s a cutie! I think we’re just not ready to commit to the world of fur children… yet :)
Too cute! But the one thing I would advise you to do is seriously consider your lifestyle and how much time you want to put into a dog before you decide what kind to get. This is my dog when we first got him – http://www.internettherapyblog.com/2010/06/15/the-baby-i-never-wanted/ – with a post title aptly called “the baby I never wanted.” I was always a cat person before we got him and now I’m kind of a dog person. I say kind of because for me, it’s literally like having a kid. Our dog is so high energy that its almost like having another job – or a kid. He has a bunch of health issues too and sometimes goes all crazy person on me. Most people would have given up on him (and have even told me such) long ago, but we stuck it out. I like to say I love him best when he’s sleeping. But seriously, how could you NOT love that face? His cuteness is his one saving grace!
I can totally see that, Morgan! I think we’re just not ready for that responsibility at this point in our lives- but someday! Logan is really cute, thanks for sharing that post! :)
PUPPIES! look how squishy they are :)
you follow me on Instagram, so you know about Charlie – but if you ever need a fix, let me know and I’ll email you outtakes!
oh.my.gosh. so adorable! I think labs and goldens make for the cutest puppies.
labs are quite possibly my favorite dogs – I got that from my dad. :) they’re a bit on the bigger side, which brings its own problems, but they’re such good dogs! so loyal and stoic and loving and happy. ours was very low maintenance, but she was a bit of a black sheep – a lab who was afraid of water! they also do really well as family dogs, which may be something important to consider for the future. :) our lab was definitely my best friend when I was younger; I used to treat her as a pillow when lying on the floor to watch TV.
Aww, that’s so sweet! I really like labs too- my grandparents had a lab mix when I was growing up. He looked like a yellow lab but he was HUGE. I have a soft spot for yellow labs because of him.
Oh my goodness, too much cuuuuteness! We’ve had Toby for nearly a year now, and it’s definitely A LOT more work than we had anticipated. It really does feel like having a baby/crazy toddler at times, and super late nights out are a rare thing now. At the same time, Toby has brought so much joy to our home that I can’t imagine life without that little monster :-)
Toby is such a cute name for a dog, I love it!
I have a little “puppy” (he`s 10) collie who`s name is Kutja. Kutya, spelled with a y is Hungarian and means dog. Collie`s are super sweet, not wild, they don`t jump at you with great force, they don`t bite or anything like that. At the same time, my boy (and Collies in general) is very smart, a little stupid, incredibly shy and easily frightened. Let`s start from the beginning. Kutja will remember the time we get up, it`s programmed into him. He will cry (he rarely barks) until someone takes pity on him and walks him.
When, for example, he has some kind of “injury” he will pretend to be super hurt, but as soon as he thinks he`s out of sight, he`ll be running away as if nothing happened.
Furthermore, he`s the weirdest eater, all through his childhood he would basically starve because he wouldn`t accept dog food (we`ve tried it all, really.). Now he`s eating like a mad dog.
What else? Kutja does watch the house, but before someone enters, I`m sure he would run and play hide because he`s so shy. Also, he really is frightened of everything, but we actually assume that something must have happened before we got him. For years he wouldn`t walk through doors, anything that moved would scare him, still thunderstorms or fireworks cause panic attacks and he won`t stop shaking. But, for example he understands that we people sit on couches or lie in beds so he thinks those are safe and he will jump up and sit with us. It calms him when we put a blanket on him, like a little baby.
Finally, my Collie should be about… half a meter in height I believe but for some reason he never really grew, he only got longer, he`s a little out of proportion. For us, the worst is when we want to spontaneously travel somewhere for a night or two and always have to arrange for a dog sitter first, tell them everything and so on and so on, it can be a huge hassle. But other than that, I would never want to miss him again!

Slightly off topic but I just discovered your blog today through that Pinterest pin that you tweeted about – from forever ago. I wanted to let you know that I love your blog and your style of writing as well as your pictures. You do some great work!
Haha that’s funny! It kinda sounds like he’s a collie that’s corgi shaped?
Thanks Anna, you’re so sweet!
Yep, that`s exactly him!
There is absolutely NOTHING better than cuddling a puppy… Especially when she’s sleeping on your lap. Bobby and I just got a beagle/chihuahua mix and oh my god she’s the love of my life. If you want some cute photos, check her out on Facebook! I never knew I could love a creature as much as I love Zoey!
Oh my gosh, Zoey is SO CUTE! Congrats, Claire!
I NEED to go here. OMG.
So so so precious! I will take just one, please :)
oh my gosh! look at those faces! they kind of look like bosco when he was a pup!
too much cuteness in one post!
Not going to lie, I totally hugged my dog sitting beside me while looking at this post! I’m so glad that we got her. It was a little spontaneous. I mean, we had talked about getting one for a while, but our friend (http://workfortreats.wordpress.com/ her blog) fosters dogs and recently got what the shelter called a german shepard mix. Long story short, we knew it was going to be hard work, but we had no idea that it was going to be like having a baby. But it has totally been worth it! She brings such joy into our lives! (and we have an apartment too!)
We are dog people. Actually, we are turning into crazy Show Dog people, which is a whole other level of dog crazy. We got a Brittany puppy this summer for me because my husband came into the relationship with his dog. My husband’s dog is the BEST dog ever. So sweet. Not aggressive. Wonderfully behaved (most of the time), so we figured we could handle another one. Plus, she pretty much just wants my husband. She wants my approval but could otherwise care less about me. So now that I have my own puppy, I am SO IN LOVE. He is the best thing ever! There is nothing better than having a dog walk up to you, curl up next to you and put their head on your lap. It makes any bad day alright, and a good day better. His breeder thinks he is super cute (which he is) so she wants us to show him. Show dog people are… interesting. :) Very nice, but different. And now our dogs play together. They are best friends. The puppy gets all his energy out and the older dog acts like she did 4 years ago, when she was 2.
Get a puppy! :) That’s my advice.
I LOVE them! Obviously :)
where did you do this!! must.go.now!
It’s this breeder near Harrisonburg! They used to let JMU students go whenever, but their website makes it look like they banned them… so you might have to act like you’re interested in buying a puppy- but who isn’t? :)
Um, Disney was wrong. This is definitely the happiest place on earth!
haha I totally agree! Which is saying a lot as a big Disney fan :)
