Into July: Summer Vacation

blogging· business· monthly recap

1 Jul

It’s a new month, and I’m going to try something new.  I’m going to take an official, month-long  “blog break.”  The thing is, last year I took a fair amount of time off of work during the summer.  Well, I wasn’t “off,” but I took on less clients and slowed down my work schedule.

I purposely didn’t do that this year, but I’m feeling like something’s gotta give.  I figure it’ll be better for me to set some parameters around not blogging rather than feeling guilty or lame about not being around as much.  I’m hoping it’ll give me more energy to really knock my client projects out of the park and maybe even be creative just for the fun of it.  I want to catch up on blog reading and book reading.  I’ve only read 4 fiction books this year, and it’s already July.  That just won’t do.

Since I’ll probably be going through blog withdrawal a little, I’m sure you’ll get more even more from me than usual on Instagram, Twitter, and even Facebook.  Basically, even though it will be quiet around here, I’ll still be around!  Have you even taken a blog break before?  Any tips?

I took a week long blog break earlier in April and couldn’t believe how much I was having blogging withdrawals! It was great to not worry about the blog but I did miss connecting with my favorite bloggers. I hope you find some peace during your break!

Thanks Angel! I’m sure I’ll have that going on too- but I’m hoping that it will give me more time to comment on other blogs and interact on social media more than I have lately :)

Enjoy your break! I always say I’m going to take a break and then as soon as I do, inspiration hits and I feel the need to post. Maybe because by admitting that I’m taking a break I’m no longer feeling the pressure to blog? I don’t know haha.

I’m kind of hoping that will happen and that I’ll come back in August with a month full of scheduled posts… hoping being the key word there ;)

Enjoy your much needed blog R&R! Sometimes you just need to step back and recharge.
Don’t lead by my example though. ;) My intended little break has somehow stretched into 6 months off… eek. I needed it though, but just can’t find my groove again.

Best of luck, and enjoy! My best advice is that age old saying “if you’re not going to do something right, don’t do it at all.” Basically, enjoy fully taking the time off, and don’t feel guilty about it. That will only create more stress, and you won’t reap the full benefits of taking the break in the first place. This is what I tell my friends when they say they are bringing a few work-related things on vacation. No fun! ;) Also, when you get back, maybe take a further week off just to plan. I know when I try to jump back in just because the time I self-imposed is up, I kind of panic. I need some time to plan to get back in the groove (hopefully this is my week! hah). Have so much fun Katelyn! XO.

That’s such good advice! That’s kind of my goal in announcing that I’m not blogging for a month- in the past when I just don’t blog I feel guilty about it, but now I feel almost like I’m not allowed to, so it’s okay :)

I took a blog break in April, while I was battling a yucky depression/anxiety cycle and needed some time to refocus. And I’m so glad I did! I thought July was going to be a blog 6x a week type of month, but after a long talk with Thomas last night about what this month is going to be like, what we’re working towards, etc. I decided to cut back and post twice a week at the most. I’ll probably do a Wednesday/Saturday schedule – or something like that! But like you, I want more time in my day to focus on starting this business and I miss having the time to comment on other people’s blogs. So cheers to a summer blogging break! xoxo

I can’t imagine how difficult it is to come to a decision like that. I can’t wait to see what you do with your client work! :)

You know, it’s something that had never occurred to me before, but when I thought of it last weekend it just felt right and I immediately felt relieved. I think when it’s right for you, you know :) My husband is taking the bar this month and I’m going back and forth between our apartment and my parents’ house- it’s a very transitional time and I think it just makes sense for us right now with my client schedule. Hope you’re having a great summer, Kory!

[…] In the meantime, during nap time, I’ve been able to think about me. And thinking some more about this blog… I have decided (not just now! I’ve been thinking about it for a while) for the month of August to take a blog break. I have been inspired by Kate Brookes who took July off her blog to work out what to do next. […]
