Today is my last day of client work for 2013!  Craziness.  While I’ll be stepping back from work a little bit, I’m hesitant to call it a break- I have a long laundry list of work related things that I’ve been putting off until this little period of time.  I’ll continue to blog sporadically, but my hope is that things will start to look a little different around here before I get back! (Did I just put that in writing? Yikes.)

The most exciting (and honestly, scary) thing I have in the works is switching computers.  Remember when I was all Secret Squirrel about Black Friday shopping?  Well, I bought a new computer.  An iMac, to be exact.  It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a long time, and now that it’s finally time to set it up and well, use it, I’m kinda freaked out about it.  My computer is like my home.  This feels a lot like moving.  So cross your fingers for me and wish me luck!  I could be in for a rude awakening this weekend.

Got any advice for a lifelong PC user making the transition?  I could use all the help I can get!

I can totally relate to these feelings about blog reading.

Love these Pinterest tips!

Speaking of Pinterest, I’m hoping to be inspired by this board when I start wrapping this weekend!  So many great gift tag freebies out there.

And if you’re looking for a good read about life in general, I loved this post from Megan.

And if you’re looking for a good read that’s a little more geared towards creative entrepreneurs, go read this post from Whitney.

I feel ya! This spring I switched from a PC to a Macbook Pro (I have an iMac now too). When I first got the MBP, I came thisclose to returning it because it just felt so unfamiliar and strange. Everything was different and I had to relearn how to do things I had been doing a certain way for so long (training my finger to hit command instead of ctrl was a biggie). When I finally got my footing, I fell in LOVE with it and I’m sure you will too. I would never ever go back to a PC.

Transferring all my files was super easy – my PC automatically backed up every day to Mozy, so I just downloaded the backup contents onto the Mac. There are many other ways to do it, but that was the easiest since my files were already in the cloud. My advice would be to just take it slow, have patience, and consult Google if you need help. Google was definitely my BFF when I was learning! Best of luck :)

Thanks for the encouragement, Kate! I decided to spread out the transfer process over the course of this week, so my iMac is all set up but I haven’t installed a lot of the software, so I’m still designing on my old computer. One step at a time, I guess!

I transitioned from a PC to an iMac over the summer… it’s totally worth it! The only advice I have is to make sure you transfer all your files right away. I still haven’t transferred everything and I absolutely hate having to go on my old laptop to get a file. It reminds me just how much I hate PCs every time I have to do it.

Good to know, thanks Allyssa! I still have yet to bite the bullet and sign up for Adobe Cloud, so right now I’m hammering out some design stuff on my old computer and using the Mac for more “fluffy” things. It’s actually kinda nice to have two computers going, but once I start designing on the Mac I think I’ll really make the switch! I’ll definitely get there by the end of the week :)

    Hi Katelyn!

I just transitioned over to an iMac over the summer as well. It was a quick and easy move. I am in love with the Apple goods now and own an iPad and iPhone and MBP as well. I don’t think I’ll ever go back and I don’t think you will have any problems! You will LOVE it. I was a lifelong PC user as well. ;)

But I agree with Allyssa! But I used Dropbox!

I’m loving it so far! Still haven’t fully switched yet, but I think it’ll be great once everything is moved over to the new computer!

I love my Mac! I was really annoyed when I found out my undergraduate major basically required it, because I thought OS was so stupid. But once you go Mac, you’ll never go back. ;) Just learn the keyboard shortcuts early and I think you’ll be golden!

I think I’m getting there- it’s getting harder and harder to switch back and forth between the two! (I haven’t shut down my PC for good yet :)
