My brother goes to school in Richmond, and yesterday I spent the day there exploring with him. I freaking love Richmond. I took a class that studied a site near Church Hill my last year of college, and I developed a big time appreciation for it some time over the course of that semester. So the combination of the weather, hanging out with my bro, and exploring somewhere awesome amounted to a pretty wonderful day.
We started off our adventures with lunch at The Black Sheep, where we split this ginormous sandwich. It was really good, and it was probably pretty funny to watch because we were sitting in the center of the restaurant making a total mess. The sandwhich was falling and dripping all over the place, and we were picking it up and licking our fingers and being disgusting. Mom would have been so proud.
After lunch we walked down Monument, where I had more than a little fun peeking into the backyards of all the gorgeous homes, and then we drove to the river and wandered across the bridge to Belle Isle. The bridge was cool but I have to admit that it freaked me out a little bit, mostly when it was moving.
After that we walked to get coffee at this cute place on Broad Street, and then we collapsed at the house for the rest of the afternoon. We were so beat! My bro made us burgers and corn on the cob for dinner. How cute is that? It was delish. Then I was on the road home! It was such a fun visit. As you can see, I lamely didn’t take any pictures of us, but here’s my bro and his GF when they visited a few weeks ago, and here are lots of pictures of us plus baby bro.
What were you up to this weekend?
Beautiful pictures, my friend! Happy Monday!
Gorgeous pictures! Glad you had a nice visit with your brother.
It sounds like you had a great time! Isn't it funny when you do something 'un-fancy' in a nicer restaurant? I feel like I've had so many of these moments. I'm a bit of a klutz sometimes… Haha.
great pictures!
Richmond looks gorgeous! I love the house covered in vines with the blue shutters–so quaint and pretty!:)
OKAY, this is my favorite blog post ever! We lived right off of monument for 5 years, just a couple of blocks from my favorite house, the Italian looking one with the beautiful patina-colored shutters that you photographed! The backyard that you peeked into is the backyard of one of my art teachers from high school (gorgeous, huh?), and the Black Sheep is one of my fave restaurants! I went there when I was back home in January. You and your brother must have spit a Battleship? We used to always meet my cousins (who lived on Monument) for brunch at the Black Sheep – we loved walking there on nice, spring Saturdays! Isn't Belle Isle beautiful? That was out favorite spot for picnics and lazy Saturdays on the rocks by the river in the summer!!! Ahhh, I love Richmond!
I really need to take a trip to Virginia!! It looks so beautiful. I love the colorful flowers. Quick question: how do you get such great pictures?! haha. I try to hold my breath, but my pictures always come out blurry, even if I turn the shutter speed up!
Gorgeous photos! I have been to Richmond a handful of times, always at night it seems… hmm. Anyway, so glad you had a great weekend! :)
Gorgeous photos, and it sounds like a great, relaxing weekend with people you love. :) I've heard so many awesome things about Richmond!
This weekend I went out to dinner a couple of times, enjoyed a random 85º day, and hosted a mini spa day at my condo for friends, including mimosas and manicures.
Josh's family lives in Richmond, so we go there often since it's only 2 hours away. We always have a great time. We went to The Black Sheep for the first time after seeing it on Man vs. Food – we split a huge sub and it was awesome!!
These are so pretty! I have a brother in-law + his wife who live in Richmond right now and they love it :) I drove by yesterday on 64 on my way back from the OBX! xoxo, eliza
Great pictures! I love quaint little street shots. My Pinterest is full of them. :)
Beautiful documentation of the city.
Love the photos!
Kate that sounds like such a perfect day. What a pretty city. I have a day planned with my sister on Sunday and hope it's as nice as the one you had with your brother :) We are going out to a conservation area not too far from the city for a hike and picture taking of course!
Gorgeous pics!!!
Your pictures are so beautiful!! I have never been to visit Richmond, but it looks gorgeous.
