Sorry for the radio silence this week, friends! I’m currently in sunny Palm Springs for Designer VACA. I’ll be back in action next week. In the meantime, you can follow along on Instagram to see what we’re up to!
P.S. This is the first blog post I’ve ever written from my phone. Turns out the WordPress app is even cooler than I thought! Neat, huh?
Jealous! It was cold and gloomy in Loudoun this morning. Have fun!
okay, so I’ve been seeing the #DesignerVACA hashtag around Twitter and Instagram lately – I guess everyone’s really excited :) but here’s my question – is that supposed to be Designer VacaY, like short for vacation? or does the VACA actually stand for something? because vacation should never be abbreviated vaca – that’s Spanish for cow.
Haha we actually discussed this a lot! It is meant to be like vacay. Some of us feel more strongly about the incorrectness of the vaca spelling than others. (cough: Lisa) I’m a little on the fence about it just because I don’t know how I feel about adding letters to abbreviations… but I get the cow confusion. Maybe we should just stear clear of the word in general?
I totally understand your point about adding extra letters, because that generally doesn’t sit well with me either. but in the case of ‘vaca’, the way it’s spelled lends itself to being pronounced vah-cah, instead of vay-cay, which is what brings to mind the whole cow thing (for me, at least). but I’ve also turned myself into a more or less professional language student, so I think I’m more sensitive to these kinds of pronunciation things in the first place.
